Gearing Up To Return

Each year I decorate my room and say I will not redo it the following year. However, there is just something about beginning a new school year, coupled with Pinterest, that makes me want to redo my room Every. Single. Year.  So...here is what I walked into at the end of July.

It was a BIG mess because we have to clean our rooms out, completely, before we leave for summer vacation. It's always overwhelming when I walk back in for the first time so it typically takes a few trips before I get in a good working groove.

When I left for the beach on August 2nd this is what I had accomplished.

I am not finished with my room but I got enough accomplished so that I cou,d leave town until school starts back and not return in a full panic. I painted the front wall and a tree on the side wall, redid bulletin boards, rearranged, mod podged my filing cabinet, & made several new decor items. I have several things left to do when I return like:  hang clips from the ceiling, fill up wall space, decorate my back cabinets, and create a writing center.

Also, these lovelys are being mailed out tomorrow. Will one arrive at your house???

Welcome Back!

I got to meet 24 precious fourth graders at orientation tonight!  I enjoyed spending time with them and sharing a little about what to expect this year.

Here's a peek inside our classrom.

This will eventually be our mail station once I find a replacement for my mailbox system.  I'm hoping to find and purchase a replacement this weekend!

This is our 7-Habits board, birthday board, special area times, cubbies, and small group table.

Literary genre posters and picture books

C.A.F.E. Board and additional cubbie space

Daily Three

I LOVE my new chevron curtains!

Class Dictionary and Bathroom Sticks on the left and Lunch Menu and Where Are You? on the right

Our classroom library!

I am hoping for a 4S line every time we are on the move!

The treat I gave my students, "I'm so LUCKY to have you in my class!"

I am looking forward to a GREAT year!

Welcome To Our Classroom!

This year I had to change my classroom up.  I received my roll and had 3 siblings of students I have previously taught so I needed to make sure EVERYTHING was different :)
Our "wonder wall" will be used for students to post their wonderings.  Anything they are interested in inquiring about can go on the questions side of the board.  If the question is answered they may move it and its answer to the answers side.
The Cafe board is going to help us with our reading strategies.  We are going to learn skills for building our comprehension, accuracy, fluency, and vocabulary.
The far right side is our Student of the Week board.  Each week we will have a student of the week.  He or she will be invited to share pictures, items, and letters from their parents to help us learn more about him or her.
All of our extra supplies, math materials, paper, and reading materials are stored in these cabinets.  The circle pocket chart holds information about our current IB study.  The yellow pockets are our classroom dictionary.
This is a view of the front of our classroom.  The board to the left will have the newsletter, WOW, and other important information posted on it each week.  The board to the right is our "bucket fillers" board.  Each time a student helps another student or does something kind they will receive a "drop in their bucket."  Our drops in buckets are pom-pom balls.  Each student's goal is to have a full bucket!  I can't wait to see how many times each student fills up their bucket!
This is a portion of our classroom library.  I store the majority of our chapter books on this shelf and in the basket.  The closet to the right has bathroom sticks and our behavior management system.  You may ask your child to explain each of these items to you at home.
The chairs in this picture are used during reading time.  The students love them!  You will also notice a map of Alabama and other facts about our state.  In the fourth grade we study Alabama History.
This is our computer center.  The students LOVE the computers.  Luckily this year we also have a Macbook cart and 3 netbook carts so students should always have access to computers :)
